Charlie Cox is seeing things clearly about what it takes to star as Matt Murdock in the upcoming Daredevil series.
“It’s great fun, but it also comes with a great deal of responsibility,” he told reporters at the Theory of Everything premiere in New York City on Monday night. “I wasn’t really aware of how vast the comic book world was until I became part of the Marvel universe. I went to Comic Con last week, and it’s really important to a lot of people. It really is. I’m having a great time.”
The actor reiterated a bit about his research process and what fans can expect when the Steven S. DeKnight series — also featuring Rosario Dawson, Deborah Ann Woll, Toby Leonard Moore, Bob Gunton, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Ayelet Zurer, Elden Henson and Vincent D’Onofrio — hits Netflix in 2015.
“I’ve read comics after comics after comics — I’ve never read so many comics in my life — and we’re finding moments from the comics to reference in the show,” he explained. “We’re trying to make a show that’s new and much, much darker than anything I’ve ever seen Marvel do before.”

It’s a point that the Boardwalk Empire alum already made while at Comic Con, but what exactly is it about the beloved blind lawyer that the “darker” series will bring to light in a new way?
“The concept that he can’t stop,” he noted The Hollywood Reporter. “He’s going out, and he’s taking the law into his own hands, and he doesn’t know if he can stop.”
Cox smiled while concluding, “He might be addicted to it.”
