SAN DIEGO—
A police officer with the California Highway Patrol rescued an allegedly intoxicated woman, who was in the driver’s seat on a San Diego freeway.
The woman’s car was stopped in the middle of I-805, as cars sped by her early Friday. A passerby ran to the car and tried to wake her up, CNN affiliate KGTV reported.
Video obtained by KGTV shows the man tap on the window and yell “Wake up!” but the woman remained unresponsive.
CHP Officer Sergio Flores arrived at the scene and attempted to get her attention by tapping on the driver-side window with his flashlight, according to KGTV.
Suddenly, her foot started to slip off of the brake, and her wheels began rolling. Officer Flores ran around to the passenger side and then smashed the window with his flashlight.
Finally, Flores threw the door open and put the car into park just as the woman appeared to wake up.
According to KGTV, the 25-year-old driver, identified as Amber Dlaine McKinney Morgan, was then moved to a safe location off the roadway before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.
