Disney Donuts

HAI! I haven’t posted in what seems like forever, but my best friend has been visiting this past week and it has been a whirlwind of fun plus oodles and oodles of delicious food (to come in my next post).

We spent the majority of the day on Friday making Disney inspired donuts. The first time around, I filled the donut molds with too much batter and we ended up with huge donuts. We ended up making a second batter and snacked on the donuts we didn’t need.

Disney Donuts

Recipe makes around 8 donuts
I N G R E D I E N T S :
Donuts (adapted from Sally @ Sally’s Baking Addiction):
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 egg
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup milk (I used 2%)
1/4 greek yogurt
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (I used vanilla bean paste)

For decorating:
Candy melts in red, white, brown, blue, yellow, purple, and pink. I bought them on sale for $2.99 a package at Michael’s, or they can be found on Amazon.

I N S T R U C T I O N S :
1. Preheat oven to 350Ā°F and grease your donut pan.
2. Whisk the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and nutmeg together and set aside.
3. In another bowl, combine the egg, light brown sugar, milk, and greek yogurt till smooth. Add in the melted butter and vanilla.
4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients. Make sure not to overmix.
5. Transfer the donut batter to a plastic freezer bag or pastry bag. Cutting off the corner of the bag, pipe batter into the greased donut pan. Fill them 1/2-2/3 of the way up.
6. Bake for approximately 10 minutes.
7. Remove from the oven and let the donuts cool slightly. Then transfer to a cooling rack.
8. For the decorations, melt the candy melts according to the package directions. Use a sandwich bag with the corner cut off to pipe out Mickey’s yellow buttons, Minnie’s flower, Donald’s red bow and hat, and Daisy’s pink bow. Dip and decorate the donuts as I did or however you wish!

What are Minnie and Mickey’s ears made out of? They are not mentioned in the instructions. I ws thinking Necco wafers covered in icing would work, but I’d like to know what you used.

Hi Donna! I used a few unmelted candy melt discs and attached them with melted candy melts šŸ™‚

Thanks! Can’t wait to try making them. I just took my grandchildren to Disney World a few months ago. They’ll get a big kick out of the doughnuts.

What are the Donald hats and disey bows made of?

    • Courtney C. February 25, 2015 at 1:25 am

Hi Annie! Donald’s hat and all the bows are made out of candy melts. I printed a photo of each and placed a piece of wax paper on top. Then I piped them out onto the wax paper and waited until they were dry before I secured them onto the donuts with more candy melts. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions šŸ™‚

These are SO adorable! You’re very talented! I think I’d have to take loads of pics because I’d feel guilty about eating them.

    • Courtney C. March 2, 2015 at 11:35 pm

Thank you, Sharon! I actually didn’t take enough pictures because I wanted to eat them already!

  • Brittney June 12, 2015 at 6:31 pm

Hey would you make these and ship them?

    • Courtney C. June 13, 2015 at 5:55 am

Hi Brittney, I’m not sure how well these would do with shipping as the candy melts could easily do just that… Melt. Especially in warmer temperatures. They are not too difficult to make at all! I’d love to see someone else recreate these šŸ™‚
