There is no doubt that the show Empire holds down the throne, dominating Wednesday nights on FOX. The show is full of drama, amazing performances and so far it’s shattering records.

The audience grew every week for 10 straight weeks. The episode leading up to the grand finale had 15 million people glued to their TVs.

Part of the attraction for viewers, is the witty writing, filled with catchy lines. “Cookie,” played by to Taraji P. Henson, has had quite a few of them all season long.

“In the case of the Boo-Boo Kitty nickname, we allow the actors to ad-lib. And they collaborate with the writers on set; they stay true to who the characters are,”said Eric Haywood, a writer on the show Empire.

FOX40 had a chance to talk with Haywood. He has written for several shows, including ABC’s Private Practice and Soul Food, a Showtime series.

The show grabs your attention more like a movie than a TV show. Eric Haywood says the writing team’s job is to allow fans to see multi-dimensional characters.

Shortly after the series debuted, it was renewed for season two.

When asked about plans for season two, Haywood said, “It’s actually an easy question, because there’s been no discussions about season two. We are on hiatus.”

There is buzz over which celebrities will guest star on the show next; A-listers Oprah and Common will show up season two.
