SACRAMENTO-

The City of Sacramento is once again giving shoppers and diners the gift of free parking around downtown this year.

Starting on Black Friday, metered parking in downtown, midtown and Old Sacramento will be free after 4:30 p.m., and free all day on weekends through Christmas Day.

In case drivers forget, new this year, the city’s 4,000 smart meters will not accept any payments during the free holiday parking hours.

The “free parking zone” ranges from I Street to L Street, and from Front Street to 29th Street. The holiday rates only apply to on-street parking spaces.

Some garages will also offer special rates, check the signs at each location.
