While it seems unlikely that Warner Bros’ DC Entertainment properties and Disney’s Marvel franchises will get a chance to mix, match and create a cinematic version of Avengers/JLA anytime soon, one fan hasn’t let that stand in the way of creating a fake trailer for what would be the most slam-bang superhero movie ever — if only it existed.
Splicing together scenes from The Avengers, Man of Steel, The Amazing Spider-Man and Fox’s X-Men movies with video game clips and footage from the CW’s Arrow and The Flash, David E. Kelley’s failed Wonder Woman pilot, HBO’s Game of Thrones and countless other movies (is that narration from The Lord of the Rings?), the trailer for Marvel vs. DC suggests that a clash between superhero properties would be explosive, if nothing else.
Quite why the heroes are fighting remains unclear, of course, but that’s hardly problematic. For one thing, you wouldn’t expect a trailer for a real movie to give away all the plot details in advance, and for another, fighting each other for little to no reason is just something that superheroes tend to do when they meet for the first time in comic books. Let’s just assume that they’d all team up against some common enemy in the end.
For those who wish the movie trailed by this video were a real thing, the real DC Versus Marvel comic book from 1996 might end up being the next best thing, if you can find it in the back-issue bins.
