STOCKTON —

A Stockton man has been sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, officers tried to make contact with Austin Reed, 42, in November 2012. Reed ran from the officers and threw an assault-style firearm away.

In addition to the firearm, officers recovered a 9mm pistol with 25 live rounds in an extended magazine.

Reed was taken down soon after.
