MODESTO-

More than 100 people, including dozens of uniformed officers, gathered in front of the Modesto Police Department on Monday evening for a prayer service.

The event, organized by the Modesto Police Clergy Council, was part of an ongoing effort between clergy and Modesto Police to build relationships.

The goal is to be proactive, not waiting for a conflict to bring police and community members together.

Chiefs of the Modesto Police Department, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, the Modesto Fire Department and Modesto’s mayor were all present.

Pastors from several area churches offered prayers for law enforcement during the gathering.

They also prayed for peace and understanding in communities that are dealing with violence between police and citizens.
