To hear Ryan Reynolds tell it, Fox’s movie Deadpool has been a long time coming, but the wait has been worth it. “It’s been a long time, but it’s happening the right way, and that’s all that matters,” he said.
“The budget isn’t what we all hoped it would be, this is actually the suit,” Reynolds told MTV, looking down at his plaid shirt (On the plus side, at least it was in Deadpool’s colors, red and black). “We don’t have the money that most superhero movies do, but that’s great, actually. You know, necessity’s the mother of invention and that’s why we get to make the movie we want to make.”
Comparing the potential for Deadpool to his ill-fated Warner Bros./DC Green Lantern movie, Reynolds said, “You gotta just have faith in the people you’re working with, and faith in the prep, and that’s all I’m doing. On this one, the prep’s been 11 years. So, you know, you’d like to think that you’re putting your best foot forward, but we’ll see.”
The actor also commented on the leaked test footage for the project that made it to the Internet last year, seemingly jump-starting interest in the project ahead of Fox’s announcement of a release date for the feature. “Yeah, I would’ve leaked that footage myself!” he joked, denying that he was behind the release. “Looking back now? In a heartbeat! I should go home and scan the old hard drive and see what I got in there!”
Deadpool is scheduled for release in February 2016.
