SACRAMENTO-
The Sacramento Kings formally announced their new head coach, George Karl, Tuesday, and he had quite the busy first day on the job.
Karl will be taking over for Ty Corbin, who was the mid-season replacement for Michael Malone. Karl is the sixth-winningest coach in the history of the NBA, having coached the Seattle Supersonics, the Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets.
Earlier Tuesday, Karl toured the future site of Sacramento’s downtown arena. He took a tour with his own, personalized purple hard hat. Then he got to take the virtual tour of the future home court.
Speaking to the media, Karl said his plan to work to “wash away the basketball hell (the team) have been living in the past two months.”
Kings General Manager Pete D’Alessandro also admitted to reporters that he put former head coach Corbin in an “impossible situation” after the firing of Malone.
Karl was most recently an NBA analyst for ESPN.
