“The male half produced a firearm and actually pointed it at the officers. So the officers, in fear for their lives, fires shots at the suspect,” said Officer Traci Trapani.
That suspect was taken to a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. His condition is still unknown at this time.
Neighbor Brett Sanders lives two doors down from where the shooting took place tonight, and said the couple is at odds with each other all the time.
They’re in a domestic dispute all the time, and it’s just cause of him trying to work through what he’s got going on—his disability,” Sanders said.
Sanders said the suspect, who we’ve chosen not to identify at this time, lived with his girlfriend in this neighborhood for about the last five years. The trouble began though just a couple years back.
“He’s having some rough times right now. He tried to commit suicide,” said Sanders.
According to Sanders, he’s also been out of work for some time. Sanders himself had him work occasionally for his lawn-care business. But his troubles apparently continued.
“He has no money. He hasn’t been able to pay rent for quite a while. I mean, the landlord he’s been gracious enough to let him stay there,” Sanders said.
Police say his girlfriend was unharmed during tonight’s incident.
Sanders admitted he has recently distanced himself from the suspect because of his troubles.
“When things are good, he’s a decent guy. But he needs somebody to step in and help manage what he’s got going on,” said Sanders.
