Anabel Medina Garrigues and Neal Skupski routed Boston's Arantxa Parra Santonja and Scott Lipsky 5-1 to give California a critical 20-17 victory at Dream Stadium at Sunrise Mall in the Sacramento suburb of Citrus Heights. Medina Garrigues and Parra Santonja, both Spaniards, are regular partners on the WTA tour.
The Dream (3-3) snapped a two-match losing streak before heading back to Austin to face the 5-0 Aces tonight.
It will be the third match in four nights between the teams and end the first half of the regular season for California. Austin won 20-19 in Austin on Thursday and 22-16 in Citrus Heights on Friday.
The Dream won the first two sets against Boston to lead 10-6, but the Lobsters captured the next two for a 16-15 edge entering mixed doubles. Medina Garrigues, 32, and Skupski, a 25-year-old Briton, took care of the rest.
Boston's Scott Lipsky, who split his two sets, was the second ex-Stanford star in two nights to return to Northern California. Austin's Nicole Gibbs, a WTT rookie, won both of her two sets on Friday.
