SOUTH SACRAMENTO —

One man is dead and another has been arrested as a result of a fatal crash involving alcohol early Saturday morning.

According to police, 23-year-old Nicholas Balestra was driving south on I-5 just below Seamas Road when he drifted off the road and hit the rear of a car that was stopped on the right shoulder.

Balestra’s car then spun out of control and finally stopped in the northbound lanes.

Balestra was taken to UC Davis Medical Center for minor injuries. He was then arrested for DUI and booked into Sacramento County Jail.

21-year-old Jesus Castillo was a passenger in Balestra’s car. He was killed in the collision.

Another passenger, 22-year-old Nathaniel Maldonado, was also taken to UC Davis for minor injuries.
