SACRAMENTO —

A local boy beat out over 3,000 other children to be cast as a student on the national TV game show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”

10-year-old Mason Davis is one of six students filling desks on the revival of the popular game show.

Davis, born in South Sacramento, went to elementary school in Elk Grove for a few years before his family moved to Los Angeles in 2012. Davis’ parents own a tortilla company and currently homeschool the new game show star.

Davis and the other five students recently completed shooting the series along with host Jeff Foxworthy. When asked what he learned during the taping of the show, Davis said, “I learned some people take a long time to answer easy questions.”

Since moving to LA, Davis has appeared in several national commercials, films and TV shows.

“5th Grader” puts contestants through a pop quiz of questions taken from elementary school textbooks. The show will air Tuesdays on FOX starting on May 26.
