Police: Phone Scam Targets SCSU International Students

ST. CLOUD - A phone scam has surfaced that appears to be targeting international students at St. Cloud State University.

Several reports have been made to SCSU Public Safety regarding calls from the police department's non-emergency number.

Police are reminding you that the phone number 251-1200 is an incoming phone line only and that the call is likely a scam. The number will either take the caller to the phone directory at the department or to Stearns County Dispatch when the department is closed.

You should never give out personal or financial information over the phone. Police don't engage in activity relating to collecting back taxes, or receiving money to process an arrest warrant.

Similar scams were also reported by police in March and July this year. Due to the nature of how people are able to make calls and attach fake caller ID numbers, it makes it difficult for police to find the source of the calls.
