..........there was a place named Orange Julius

I get this craving whenever I see a giant bowl of blood oranges that we grow here on the farm.....sitting on my dinette table. Back in the late 1950's when Farmer Deno lived in southern California......there was a place named Orange Julius.....that made a creamy, frothy, cool orange drink.
....................to die for!
This drink grew out of an orange juice stand opened in Los Angeles in 1926 by Julius Freed. He had created an orange juice-based drink that was less acidic and therefore more popular. He did not have a name at first so when people came up to his stand they they would simply say "Hey! Give me an orange Julius!" Thus.... the name that stuck.
Ask any elder generation about those Orange Julius stands.....their eyes will light up. Now let Farmer Deno light up your eyes with this ORIGINAL recipe that in fact is the original.
In your blender do the following in this order...
1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1/2 cup simple syrup
1 tsp. dry milk powder
1 tsp. egg white powder
1/2 tsp. of vanilla powder (purchased on-line)
Now fill the rest of the blender up with crushed ice
Why crushed ice? Because it blends quicker with the powders to create that frothy lightness.

Don't you hate the fact that you didn't buy oranges from our fruit stand :-)
