For those who have flashed the US firmware on your E6653 only to realize the Fingerprint scanner is not working, there's a simple way to get it working.

You need to rebuild the package with Flashtool
1. Download US firmware (E6603)
2. Download UK firmware (E6653)
* make sure you have checked "Unpack automatically" when downloading the firmwares

3. Open both folders and you'll need to replace the two following files in the US folder with the two from the UK folder
- elabel-E6653-row-row_201511160924345.1_32.0.A.6.200_S1-ELABEL-LIVE-F936-PID1-0004-MMC.sin
- oem_S1-SW-LIVE-F936-PID1-0006-MMC.sin
4. In Flashtool, go to Tools > Bundles > Create
5. Select the folder containing the US Firmware which you replaced the files with the UK ones.
6. Select/Enter the device, Branding and Version
7. Select All items in the Left box and move them to the Right
8. Click Create
Now flash it as you would normally do.

Test on mine. Working fine, I even gained the "Download Internet settings" option which I was missing before. :)

Are you seeing an improved battery life or cell quality now that you have the US version flashed? And would it be possible to change/replace the hosts file through unpacking the firmware before flashing?

I can't say really, I had the Z5 for than 24h before I tried flashing the us version, so never really used a full charge on the carrier's firmware. All I can say though I My Z3 seems to have a better battery life.

As for changing/replacing the hosts file, I'm not sure I follow. here's a list of files the firmware contains.

Did it. It works ;) I don't really know what it brings though. Newer baseband version? Better battery life? Better reception?

Not sure, but I tempted to do this again but also changing the modem_S1-MODEMSW-LIVE-F936-PID1-0006-MMC.sin file for the Bell version. I've unlocked a Bell Z5 and using it on Telus, my signal isn't the best (according to the signal bars) but reception and data is fine......

I will try the Bell firmware too tomorrow (makes sense since I'm from Montréal, on Vidéotron's network though). I'm using the Vodafone UK firmware at the moment, but I realised it installed some carrier-specific bloat I can't uninstall or disable so... ;)

Just make sure you use the CUSTOMIZE US firmware but replace those files above. I'm downloading the Bell firmware right now to grab that modem file and try it with US customize version.

Flash this version E6603_Customized US_1300-4290_32.0.A.6.209_R4B

replace these two files with the ones from E6653_Customized UK_1298-5496_32.0.A.6.200_R11B
elabel-E6653-row-row_201511160924345.1_32.0.A.6.200_S1-ELABEL-LIVE-F936-PID1-0004-MMC.sin
oem_S1-SW-LIVE-F936-PID1-0006-MMC.sin

and modem file from E6653_Bell Mobility CA_1298-7702_32.0.A.6.200_R6B
modem_S1-MODEMSW-LIVE-F936-PID1-0006-MMC.sin

I'll let you know once I flashed it. Maybe I could just share the FTF file if it works, it'll save you downloading all three firmware.

Where are you guys downloading the US firmware from? I haven't been able to locate any source. In fact, searching for "E6603_Customized US_1300-4290_32.0.A.6.209_R4B" turns up only this thread, lol.

Looking forward to doing this! How do I not wipe my data? Forgetting if it's a checkbox or not flashing a file...

Just wanted to report back and add a +1 for this. It worked for me and the phone seems to be running just fine.

Really hoping that the newer firmware just maybe might fix the bluetooth connection issues this phone has.

So they included the actual scanner but turned it off? Why...

Edit - never mind. You mean you're in the US and have an imported version. I still wonder why they didn't include the scanner.

Just an update for anyone else looking to do this, I did a crc and md5 check between the Hong Kong E6653 and US E6603 modem files in the latest Marshmallow builds and they are exactly the same. So if you're in the US just flash the Hong Kong ftf for Marshmallow.

But flashing this firmware will run the risk of making the fingerprint sensor not working?

Did you not read the first post?
