PLACER COUNTY-
Placer County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who fatally stabbed a young man outside a Sweet Sixteen birthday party in West Roseville Friday.
Friends and family identified the victim as 21-year-old Andrew Petrenko. His cousin told FOX40, Petrenko had recently gotten out of jail, and was on the path to turn his life around for good.
At around 10 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies arrived at Lanie Court, responding to a reported disturbance. While they were there canvasing the area, a fight broke out.
“The conflict was very quick,” Lt. John Poretti of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said. “There were some words exchanged. Then the subject got out of his vehicle, went over to the victim. They had a quick scuffle.”
Lt. Poretti also added, the driver is described as a white man, about 18 to 22 years old, driving an older model white sedan. He was in the car with a few other people when he jumped out, stabbed Petrenko three to four times, got back in the car, and drove off. The victim fell to the ground, and died on scene.
Hours before the party, the host, who lives on Lanie Ct, gave neighbors a flyer explaining she was hosting a Sweet 16 Birthday Bash for her best friend. The flyer said a DJ would be playing for 80 of her “closest friends and family,” and the party would go on from 9 p.m. to about 1 a.m.
Some excerpts read:
“There will be parental supervision and with that said no underage drinking or smoking will be going on.”
“Please do not call the police or Morgan Greens security, if the noise issue is very distracting or disturbing please call of text me… I will immediately fix any problem or concern any of you may have.”
However, neighbors we spoke to said they saw well over 100 people, some looking as young as 14, and as old as their mid-20s. Many witnessed several fights, and saw party-goers bringing alcoholic beverages to the party house.
“Whether you put out the letter or not, when people think there is something wrong, they will generally call us. That is what happened this time,” Lt. Poretti said.
Lt. Poretti said clearly, the letter did not solve the issues, as deputies were already in the area when the stabbing occurred.
“The suspect may have well known that deputies were 200 yards down the road, then chose to do this anyway, which tells me his propensity for violence is probably fairly high. There is somebody who knows exactly what happened and who did it. That’s who we need to call the Sheriffs office,” Lt. Poretti said.
