Although they were turned back by the Elk Grove Planning Commission, the 99 Cent Only store chain will appeal their case to the Elk Grove City Council tomorrow night.

The City of Commerce-based discount retailer will seek to reverse the Planning Commission's decision denying their request to rezone a 3.48 parcel on Elk Grove-Florin Road and Brown Road from office to light commercial. At their February 5 meeting, Planning Commissioners denied the request citing the availability of retail space in the city and security concerns.

Should the City Council reverse the decision, the retailer plans on constructing a free-standing 20,800 sq. ft. structure. If approved, it will be the chain's first store in Elk Grove and 10th in the Sacramento region.

Tomorrow's meeting starts at 6 p.m.

By the time they are done greasing the necessary skids, they're gonna have to call it the $1.28 Store!
