STOCKTON —

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department is under fire after an employee claimed she was sexually harassed by a Captain. These details are all coming to light in a lawsuit.

This lawsuit also alleges there was a lack of action on part of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and that the department has a ‘good ol’ boys club’ mentality.

A sexual harassment lawsuit filed against Captain John Williams, San Joaquin County, and the county’s sheriff’s department has all the makings of a dramatic episode.

“It has more of a mad men 1960s feel, good ol’ boys feel to it,” Dustin Dyer, an Attorney with Dyer Law Firm based in Stockton said.

According to Janna Huber, the woman who filed the suit, these claims are anything but fiction and definitely not entertaining.

“She wants to be able to work in an environment free of retaliation and sexual advances,” Dyer explained.

Her attorney said she has been a victim of sexual harassment that lasted from 2012 to 2014.

“Both touching and verbal advances and making illicit comments to her throughout,” Dyer said.

In the suit that FOX40 obtained, Huber claimed, Captain Williams used ‘his rank and power to intimidate’ her and claimed when rejected -he took it out on Huber by ‘making her job more difficult’.

“It got to the point where she couldn’t handle it anymore,” Dyer said.

We reached out to San Joaquin County Chief Deputy Counsel Kristen Hegge, she told us they cannot comment on pending litigation.

She did however confirm that the Captain is still employed with the sheriff’s department, but offered no details on his current assignment.

“They protect each other and that breeds misbehavior,” Dyer claimed.

Huber’s attorney added this isn’t an isolated incident and that Huber wants to change the way women are treated by male staff.

“She’s not the only who has seen this type of behavior from Captain Williams and she wanted to make it so this didn’t happen to other people,” Dyer said.

The San Joaquin County Deputy Council also told FOX40 that they were served yesterday and are reviewing this lawsuit.
