How to get things done

Tonight, my husband wasn’t feeling well and went to bed early. I went through the house telling everyone to be quiet.

Then the child with a cold started talking… REALLY Loud. Then the youngest tripped and spilled something – it sounded like marbles, but was probably cereal. In the process of helping her clean it up, the oldest knocked over a step stool and it sounded like half the pantry wall got knocked out. At this point, we all but fell into a fit of stifled giggles, trying to be quiet, but failing so obviously.

Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you try really hard to do something, you end up doing the opposite?

Like this: Don’t think about purple dinosaurs.

It worked didn’t it? Was your dinosaur singing and dancing in a circle too?

Now, think about Cinderella’s mice.

Did you stop thinking about purple dinosaurs?

You see, the more you try NOT to do something, the more you do it.

Instead, change what you are focusing on. Start doing what you need to do.

Focus on what you should be doing. If you don’t know, think it through. What do you need to do to become what God created you to be? What would it take to help you do that? Write that down, and start doing it.

Before you can say “bibbity bobbidi boo” you will be well on your way.

By simply beginning a task the Lord has put on my heart, I’ve found that He’s right there with me–giving inspiration and courage. But first, I have to start. I have to poise my hands over the computer’s keyboard and begin typing the story, article, or poem. I have to actually click the send button to get that submission to an editor. When I give God my willingness, He meets me in that place with everything I’ll need to follow through on the projects He’s put on my heart.

Thanks Laura. You are right – so many times I sit down with nothing to say, but as my fingers start moving, I see God connect dots I hadn’t otherwise, and pretty soon I have a whole post. However, there are times that my brain goes sideways, and I spend too much time trying to figure out what I will say, causing a block – looking at what I don’t have instead of what I do have. Interesting thing, the human mind. 🙂
