Kiki Sukezane is one of the new characters in NBC’s relaunched and revived Heroes Reborn, which premieres this Thursday, September 24 on the network.
Sukezane plays Miko Otomo, a character who is guaranteed to be different from anyone else you’ve ever seen on the show. (You can read our review of the series premiere here).
We caught up with the actress this summer at NBC’s press tour party, to try and get some hints as to what makes Miko.
KSITETV’s CRAIG BYRNE: What are you allowed to reveal about Miko?
KIKI SUKEZANE: Miko… she is really unique and interesting character. She lives in Tokyo, Japan. She’s basically tracking down her missing father, while hiding the extraordinary secret that makes her a force to be reckoned with.
Miko has so many action scenes. She loves all the Japanese sword fighting, and all the martial arts… I use a Naginata sword, which is like a long stick with a blade, and then I chop people.
Had you been a fan of the original Heroes series?
Yes, of course. I watched the original when I was in high school in Japan. Heroes was such a huge hit in Japan.
Was it fun to get to play with the famous sword from the series? I noticed she had the Kensei sword in the photos.
Yeah. And then I fight a lot with the sword.
Does your character get to meet anyone from the original series?
Yes! Like, all of them!
Is there anyone that was a particular favorite to get to work with?
My favorite is Masi, of course. Masi Oka – Hiro Nakamura, because I was a fan of Hiro Nakamura when I was in high school, so this is like my dream come true! It’s unbelievable.
Is your character dark and scary, or is she optimistic and happy?
Both. My character is happy, and then also dark. With a big secret.
What excites you the most for people to see when they see Heroes Reborn?
Of course, my fighting scenes! [Laughs] But with Heroes Reborn, the story is amazing. It’s more mysterious compared to the original, and then there’s going to be the new cast, and they all have individual, really deep stories for them. I hope people like it. I’m sure they will like it!

Really anxious to see her slice and dice. Beautiful young woman. Love Asian women. This snippet of a video plays very badly. They should have done better.
