Kenyatta Brown, 22, is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

A man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a woman in a Carmichael apartment complex, early Saturday morning.

Kenyatta Brown, 22, was arrested Sunday morning, on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

At 2:45 a.m. Saturday morning, Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 5900 block of Sutter Avenue regarding a woman shot inside of an apartment. They discovered 18-year-old Joslynn Sovenski dead from a gunshot wound to her chest.

An investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Brown, who is believed to have had no pre-existing relationship with the victim, but rather ended up together at the apartment because of mutual friends.

The Sacramento Sheriff’s Department says Brown was negligently handling a gun and accidentally discharged it, killing Sovenski.

According to Sovenski’s Facebook page, she was a recent high school graduate from El Dorado Hills.

Brown is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail and is currently ineligible for bail.
