The Orchard has acquired the catalog of Premium Latin Music, the indie label whose artists include pioneering urban bachata group Aventura, superstar Romeo Santos’ former band.

“We’re particularly excited about this acquisition,” The Orchard’s vp of catalog development & associate general counsel Jason Pascal said in a statement. “Aventura is a seminal artist whose fusion of R&B and hip-hop elements into Dominican bachata took the world by storm, and resulted in sold out arenas and multi-platinum records the world over.”

Premium Latin Music Albums include Aventura’s hit albums God’s Project, We Broke the Rules, and 2009’s The Last, which rose to No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

The  label was founded in 1996 by owner Franklin Romero. The Orchard’s purchase of the recordings in Premium’s catalog also includes Dominican bachata star Antony “El Mayimbe” Santos, Elvis Martinez, Eddy Herrera, Negros and popular singer/songwriter Wason Brazoban.

“Premium Latin has been central to my life for many years and I am thrilled to see the label’s next chapter unfold,” says label founder Romero. “The Orchard has been a strong strategic distribution partner for us, supporting our expansion into digital and driving value for the company. This is a natural next step in our story.”

As part of the new deal, The Orchard will now manage all distribution and offer marketing and artist development services for Premium Latin Music’s upcoming releases in both the U.S. and Canada.

“In the years to come, our job is to maintain, and ultimately enhance, not only the Aventura legacy, but the entire Premium Latin catalog that Franklin has built,” The Orchard’s Pascal added.
