Swinbourne struck twice in famous win over Honved at Molineux in 1954

Wolves have paid tribute to Honved Hero Roy Swinbourne following his death at the age of 86.

Swinbourne scored twice as the then English champions beat the Hungarian side, who at that time provided half of the country’s famed national team, 3-2 at Molineux in December 1954. His death was announced by Wanderers via their Twitter account.

In a series of tweets, they said: “The club is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Wolves legend Roy Swinbourne at the age of 86.

“Roy, one of Wolves’ Honved Heroes, scored 114 goals in 230 appearances for Wolves between 1946 and 1957.

“Sincere condolences to Roy’s wife Betty and all of his family & friends. Our players will wear black armbands in tomorrow’s game at Charlton.”
