Glitch in Singtel app sparks fear of account security

A software glitch that made one customer’s personal details viewable to other logged in MySingtel app users has raised security concerns on data privacy.

Singtel, which reacted to about a dozen comments on Facebook about the glitch, said that they were looking into the incident and are as of Tuesday, trying to reach the affected customer.

On Monday, at least a dozen other users have taken to Singtel’s Facebook page to raise the same problem, including a few that have expressed concern about whether their accounts were hacked.

Facebook user Wilson Siak wrote, “I realise when I login in I saw other peoples account instead of my own. I can see their name and address. I think there is a serious breach of account confidentiality and I suspect my account is also being compromised.”

Another user Dexter Lim also wrote, “What happened to my Singtel app? It seems been hacked.”

“We would like to assure customers that this is an isolated incident and their account security has not been compromised,” a Singtel spokesperson told Singapore publication Today in an earlier statement.
