FANS OF AMADOR COUNTY wines will be treated to an assortment of Barberas, Syrahs, old-vine Zinfandels, Sangioveses, Viogniers and other wines that flourish in Amador’s rich mountain terrain and hillside vineyards.

These delicious, food-friendly wines will be showcased at the Amador Vintners’ annual “Behind the Cellar Door” weekend wine extravaganza on March 5-6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m with 43 passport-like locations.

With a focus on wine education and perfect pairings, the annual event features blending classes, vertical tastings, library samples and barrel offerings demonstrating a commitment to winemaking at 43 Amador County wineries. Large format tastings, demonstrations, entertainment, gourmet foods on Saturday and Sunday fill out the weekend’s festivities.

Kicking off the annual weekend is the “Winemaker Reception” on Friday, March 4, from 6-9 p.m., where award-winning winemakers will share their prized wines matched with food created by the star culinary students of American River College.

Pairings will ‘cover the globe’ from Spain, Italy and France and include ports, dessert wines, gourmet cheeses, desserts and beautiful chamber music performed by the music students of American River College.

“Amador is a hidden gem of mountainous terrain producing rich, classic wines of southern France, Italy and the Mediterranean with vineyards dating back to 1850s” says Melissa Lavin, executive director of the Amador Vintners Association.

“Our winemakers adore crafting and sharing world-class wines bringing old-world and new world together with great hospitality. The adventurous wine lover and the novice alike are right at home tasting full-flavored food-friendly wines.
