STEWARTSVILLE, Mo. — Two Bethany, Missouri, women were killed in a two-vehicle accident Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 36 near Stewartsville.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the accident occurred at 8:10 a.m. as both vehicles were westbound on Highway 36 near Sharp Road. A tractor-trailer, driven by Daljit Singh, 25, of Stockton, California, rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala driven by 86-year-old Peggy Rinehart. The Chevrolet came to rest in the median, while the tractor-trailer came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder.
Rinehart and her passenger, 81-year-old Wanda Findley, were pronounced dead at the scene by a DeKalb County coroner.
All occupants were wearing a seat belt, and no other injuries were reported.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department and Stewartsville Fire Department assisted the highway patrol on the scene.
