SACRAMENTO —

The presence of law enforcement is increasing at this years Cal Expo 4th of July event.

Chief of Cal Expo Police, Robert Kraft, said there will be about 60 officers patrolling the fairgrounds, some un-uniformed, which is a 20% increase from 2014.

While there’s no specific reason for the boost in security, Kraft said they get information from the FBI and Secret Service about dangers going on around the country and the world and act accordingly.

Nearly 20,000 people are expected at Saturday’s event and multiple Sacramento law enforcement agencies will be around the area to keep everyone safe.

“It’s a very safe environment here because we have so many officers in all the jurisdictions and us here so it’s really a comfortable environment,” said Chief Kraft.

All bags will be inspected and people will be checked with a want before being allowed inside. Glass bottles, cans, drugs, alcohol and weapons can not be brought on the fairgrounds.

The gates open at 5:00 PM and fireworks start at 9:30 PM.
