ELK GROVE —

The Elk Grove Food Bank opened two new mobile pantry locations today at the Vintage at Laguna senior complexes.

The nonprofit announced earlier that it was shutting its main food distribution warehouse on Saturdays to expand its food delivery programs, especially for seniors.

It says its senior clientele has tripled over the last few years as seniors struggle with rising costs.

“Medicine, that’s the main thing,” said Beverly Boswell, a tenant who came to collect food items.

She said many of the people at her apartment complex don’t have transportation to the relatively remote warehouse distribution location.

“This will help them quite a bit,” Boswell said.

She said some people have to make a choice between spending limited funds on rent or food and medicine.

The food bank expects that more and more seniors will need to supplement their food purchases with items from the food bank.

It already operates several food delivery programs to make it easier on people in need that don’t have transportation.
