LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The charter school debate has sparked a lot of controversy across the state, and it looks like the House won’t decide whether to expand charter schools this legislative session.
There is limited amount of time on the legislative calendar because of national political conventions in late July.
Although House Speaker Robert DeLeo said residents will likely get to vote on whether to lift the charter school cap on the November ballot.
Charters don’t appear on DeLeo’s radar for final two months
Dianna Wilson of Ludlow told 22News, “It’s the system that’s been in play for a lot of years. I understand the arts and the funding of charter schools, but I also wouldn’t want to see public schools defunded because of it.”
There are currently 81 charter schools in the state, with 37,000 students on waiting lists.
