The Golden Globes red carpet suffered damage early Sunday afternoon when a sprinkler at the Beverly Hilton hotel flooded the crimson pathway the stars will walk on later tonight.

Around 12:20 p.m. PT, a lighting rig set off a fire sprinkler that sprayed water on various cameras and the red carpet a few hours before show time. The spill was attended to after approximately 15 minutes, with the Beverly Hills Fire Department using air blowers and wet vacuums to clean up the unsightly spill.
Early reports indicated a ruptured pipe had caused the soggy situation. “A pipe has appeared to totally burst and there is water gushing, literally everywhere in the position of where all of the international press — everyone has moved out of the way,” said Catt Sadler during E!’s Countdown to the Red Carpet. “Rain was not expected in L.A. today, but we’ve got a little flooding!”
The carpet is still not completely dry. THR‘s red-carpet correspondents, positioned just off the carpet, note that they are surrounded by giant puddles.
