It’s official: Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus have joined the performance lineup for MTV’s Video Music Awards.
The duo have been tapped to celebrate their respective songs of summer — Thicke’s chart-topper “Blurred Lines” and Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” — and will also face off in the new category “Best Song of Summer,” the votes for which will be collected via social media. Also up for the inaugural award: One Direction, Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding, Daft Punk and Selena Gomez.

“We have some big surprises planned and I hope everyone will tune in to see it,” said Thicke in a press release.
News of Thicke’s performance was expected, as he found himself unwittingly involved in Stephen Colbert‘s Daft Punk debacle, in which the famously TV-shy duo had to pull out of a performance on his Colbert Report due to a conflicting gig on the VMAs. Thicke had also been booked on the Comedy Central program, but Colbert has publicly stated that MTV agreed to allow the crooner to appear on both his show and the VMAs.
Thicke and Cyrus join previously announced VMA performers Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Katy Perry. The Aug. 25 show will mark Cyrus’ first time taking the VMA stage.
