ROSEVILLE—

Police in Roseville say that a strong odor reported to police by neighbors led them to a house outfitted to be a marijuana growing operation.

Officers with Roseville Police’s Vice and Narcotics Enforcement Team showed up at a home near Highland Park Drive and Montrose Avenue Tuesday after neighbors complained about some sort of strong smell coming from the residence.

Using a search warrant, the officers entered and found that most of the home had been converted to grow marijuana.

About 200 marijuana plants were seized from the home, police say.

Further, officers found that the house’s wiring had been rigged to steal electricity from the power grid.

“Illegal drug activity is definitely dangerous to the life of neighborhoods. It attracts dangerous people. It attracts criminals. And in this case it could have very well been a fire hazard. So good for the neighbors for making the call,” Roseville Police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said.

One man, 26-year-old Giovanni Anthony Vizcarra, has been arrested in connection to the pot house. He faces charges of cultivating marijuana for sale as well as stealing utility services.

Vizcarra was booked into Placer County Jail but has since posted his $20,000 bond.
