So You Think You Can Dance will be back next summer on Fox.
The competition, which wraps its 10th season this week, has been renewed for an 11th cycle — as judge and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe announced during Tuesday’s live finale. He said he’d heard the news just five minutes before going on. Shortly after his announcement, the news was confirmed by a Fox rep.
The live finale, which has the rather unconventional distinction of being interrupted halfway through by an address from President Barack Obama, caps off what has been a softer season for the Fox series, ratings wise. It’s been down double digits from the previous summer, airing just one night a week after losing its results hour in 2012.
This also marks the series’ first renewal since May’s big departure of reality chief Mike Darnell. The head of unscripted programming, who has yet to be replaced, was instrumental in the series’ development and success.
