SINGAPORE – The formation of the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA) was announced by a group of producers from the region at Asian Television Forum/Screen Singapore on Thursday.
The non-profit SAAVA aims to advance collaboration and creative development and promote content from the region around the globe.
“With the explosion of well-produced content, and a growing media infrastructure in our Southeast Asian film community, there needs to be strategic support and representative bodies in place to protect and properly utilize intellectual properties across platforms for international trade and investment,” said Chan Gin Kai of Silver Media Group, a Singapore-based financier and founding member.

SAAVA also aims to establish connections with similar organizations in the region and globally.
“The distinctive films and content this region produces deserves a wider berth and this association provides an opportunity and platform for these filmmakers to collaborate on larger-scale and higher quality projects,” said Shanty Harmayn Hofman, founder of Jakarta-based Salto Films.
SAAVA will participate at film markets, festivals and forums regionally and globally, with a mandate to offer prizes and awards to students and professional filmmakers, according to the organizers.
Membership is open to established and aspiring film producers in Southeast Asia.
