Tuesday night brought the State of the Union address, and preliminary ratings for Big Four coverage presents a relatively even playing field. Fast National results for the 9 to 10:43 p.m. ET simulcast are tentative and likely to change with time zone adjustments, but first numbers have NBC News’ coverage in the lead with adults 18-49 and CBS topping among total viewers.
The network’s initial showing averaged a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49, down two-tenths of a point from last year’s Fast Nationals. The network led with a new episode of Biggest Loser (1.7 adults), also down two-tenths of a point from last week.
CBS, which topped the night in total viewers, averaged a 1.3 rating with adults 18-49 during the State of the Union — a two-tenths lift from the 2013 Fast Nationals.
Fox aired a new episode of Dads (1.5 adults), even with last week, before the State of the Union pulled a 1.0 rating in the demo. That’s a tenth of a point up from last year.
ABC led into its State of the Union coverage (1.1 adults) with an Agents of SHIELD repeat, down a tenth of a point from last year.
Over on the CW, which did not air the State of the Union, The Originals (1.0 adults) was down a tenth of a point. At 9 p.m., as the only entertainment programming against the address, Supernatural (1.2 adults) lifted from last week’s showing to match a season high and hit its biggest viewership (2.8 million) since 2010. The network posted a nightly average of a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers.
