Mad Men wrapped its penultimate season on Sunday night with an uptick in viewers.
At 10 p.m., the sixth-season ender of the AMC drama averaged 2.7 million viewers, tying it as the most watched season finale for the show to date. Mad Men was up nearly 700,000 viewers from the last week, though it was still a ways south of its April premiere.
Among households, Mad Men actually scored its highest-rated finale ever. The 2.1 rating was up a tenth of a point from last year’s previous high.
A strong 1.3 million adults 25-54 were among those tuning in to Sunday’s episode, “In Care Of.”
The Matthew Weiner series kicked off its sixth season with 3.4 million viewers, relatively steady with the fifth-season premiere. The show suffered steep drops in its second and third outings before plateauing at around 2.4 million viewers.
Heading into its final season, Mad Men continues to be a strong DVR performer for AMC. The series, averaging 2.5 million viewers before time-shifting this season, notched an additional 2.4 million from seven-day returns, with data for the first 10 episodes already in.
Mad Men‘s final season will air in 2014.
