TORONTO – Will Ferrell, in character as Ron Burgundy, backed Rob Ford on Wednesday night by singing his re-election campaign song on Conan O’Brien‘s late-night show.
Calling the crack-smoking Toronto mayor his “dear, dear, dear friend,” Burgundy said Ford is controversial “because he’s so damn honest.”

Ferrell then sang Working for the Weekend, a 1981 song by Canadian rockers Loverboy, as he appeared on TBS’ Conan to promote Anchorman 2, which opens on Dec. 20.
“Looking at you, Rob!” Ferrell broke in at one point during his serenade. “Don’t do anything stupid, Rob!” he added during another.

Ford, who has been stripped of his political powers as his Crackergate scandal becomes a global sensation, took to his Twitter account on Thursday to applaud Ferrell’s performance. “Good morning Toronto. I had to laugh at my friend Ron Burgundy & his take on my 2014 re-election campaign song,” Ford said, before sending supports to the YouTube site.
Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis earlier this year appeared with Rob Ford at the Hockey Hall of Fame during a publicity tour stop for The Campaign.
