SACRAMENTO-

A man ran from Regional Transit officers checking fares at the Freeport Boulevard light rail station Monday afternoon, causing a chaotic scene just down the street from C.K. McClatchy High School.

Police say the man swung at officers and pushed his way past them, knocking an officer over.

A perimeter was set up around Freeport Boulevard and Bidwell Avenue as officers searched for the man. At some point, police say the man broke into a garage and stole a bike and tried to ride away but he was tackled by an officer.

Police say some nearby civilians helped officers get control of the man before he was taken into custody.

Three officers reportedly got minor injuries during the ordeal.

The man was later identified as 19-year-old Michael Kennedy. He was booked into jail for fleeing from police, assault on a police officer and other outstanding warrants.
