Greg Foster has been promoted to CEO of Imax Entertainment and senior exec vp, Imax Corp., the company said Monday.
Foster, who had been Imax Entertainment’s president and chairman, has worked for the Toronto-based specialty exhibitor since March 2001.

GREG FOSTER NAMED CEO OF IMAX ENTERTAINMENT AND SENIOR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT, IMAX CORPORATION
NEW YORK – July 08, 2013 — IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX; TSX: IMX) today announced that Greg Foster has been named CEO of IMAX Entertainment and Senior Executive Vice President, IMAX Corp., continuing to report directly to IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. Prior to the appointment, Foster was Chairman and President of IMAX Entertainment.
Since March 2001, Foster has worked to support Gelfond on driving the Company’s overall strategy and overseeing all aspects of the Company’s global entertainment activities, including creative, production, film distribution, business affairs, marketing, sponsorship, studio relationships and the revolutionary IMAX DMR® process. Foster has successfully re-positioned IMAX’s motion picture business and as a result the Company has become one of the most important and successful theatrical distribution platforms for major event films around the globe.
“For more than 12 years, Greg has played a crucial and strategic role at IMAX Corp., including increasing our access to top-level movies being produced in North America as well as around the globe,” said Richard L. During his tenure at IMAX, Foster’s primary role has been to champion the concept of equipping today’s leading filmmakers with IMAX’s ground-breaking suite of end-to-end technologies, enabling them to provide audiences with more immersive, differentiated ways to experience their films.
A seasoned Hollywood executive, Foster spent 15 years at MGM/UA where he served in various senior management posts, including Executive Vice President of Production and Senior Vice President of Motion Picture Marketing and Research. Foster is a graduate of Georgetown University.
