Divergent, based on the best-selling novel by Veronica Roth, is set in a futuristic world where people are divided into factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned that she is Divergent, not fitting into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy Divergents, Tris is forced to find out why being Divergent is so dangerous before it’s too late.
In the final trailer, Tris admits to being “terrified” of the life-changing test that determines where she fits within the world. When she can’t seem to successfully pass the test, that’s when Tris — who can’t be controlled by the people in power — starts facing new outside threats. By choosing to blend in to the Dauntless faction, she gets closer to the de facto leader. “Fear doesn’t shut you down, it wakes you up — that’s what makes you dangerous,” Four (James) tells Tris.
