The Massachusetts Historical Society will award at least two long-term MHS-NEH fellowships for the 2012–13 academic year. The stipend, governed by an NEH formula, will be $4,200 per month for a minimum of four months and a maximum of twelve months. Within the constraints of the NEH’s guidelines, the Society will supplement each stipend with a housing allowance of up to $500 per month plus an allowance for professional expenses. MHS-NEH fellowships are open to U.S. citizens and to foreign nationals who have lived in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline. Applicants must have completed their professional training, ordinarily including an earned doctorate. NEH-sponsored fellowships are not available to graduate students. The awards committee will pay special attention both to the quality of proposed projects and to their relationship to the Society’s collections. It will give preference to candidates who have not held a long-term grant during the three years prior to the proposed fellowship term. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2012.
