SACRAMENTO-

Sunday morning, someone found a bowl filled with 2 bird heads, bird legs, a white substance, and black and red beads.

The bowl was left with a two foot machete near a gutter at Garcia Bend Park in the Pocket area.

“This definitely seems similar to some of the other incidents we’ve had.  I believe this is the 13th now,” said Animal Control officer Jace Huggins.

Since January of this year, FOX40 had covered more than a dozen cases of decapitated and dumped livestock in the city.

There have been goats, chickens, lambs and even a tortoise.

This case is different. It’s the first time a weapon has been dumped with the animals.

“Whoever’s doing this is getting braver, and they don’t have the respect to make sure that the citizens of Sacramento are protected,” officer Huggins said.

The dangerous weapon and mutilated birds were left at the quiet park, which is often filled with children, bicyclists and people walking their dogs.

“For them to do that to an animal is just sad,” said Carol Jones, who lives near the park.

Animal Control is working with Sacramento police to fingerprint the Machete in hopes of finding who did this.

“We’re following the clues and as long as they keep leavin’ ’em for us we’ll eventually figure out and get them tracked down,” said officer Huggins.

Concerned residents want to see some resolution.

“The same thing should happen to them that should happen to a person that did it to another person.  My animals are my world,” said Jones.

Animal control officers canvassed homes along the park, looking for surveillance video or information about what happened.

There’s a $5,000 reward for information about this case.
