If the X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer left you feeling like a bad X-Men fan because you didn’t recognize all of the mutants who made quick, blink-and-you-miss-’em, appearances, then rejoice: Help is at hand in the form of annotations from none other than director Bryan Singer himself.
From the origins of Wolverine’s gray hair to the status of the relationship between Kitty Pryde and Iceman, Singer spills all kinds of beans to Empire Magazine as he breaks down the trailer scene by scene. Of the new mutants Bishop, Sunspot, Warpath and Blink — and you didn’t realize that “blink-and-you-miss-’em” was a pun — Singer says “they’re not really fresh recruits [to the X-Men]. They’re more refugees that are living day to day in this hideously ruined world. … They’re on the run and they join forces with the remaining X-Men to try to do this one last attempt at fixing the world.”
STORY: ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Trailer: ‘We Need You to Hope Again’ (Video)
Not everything is spelled out in the annotations — as should be the case; it is a trailer, after all, not the finished movie, so some secrets should remain hidden and some questions unanswered — but there’s a host of information to be found in them, even for the most hardcore fan. Of course, if the trailer needs this kind of decoding, how deep down the rabbit hole is the actual movie going to go?
