Actor-comedian Nick Kroll has been tapped to host the 2013 Gotham Independent Film Awards.
The star of FXX’s The League and Comedy Central’s Kroll Show, Kroll will lead the 23rd annual gathering taking place Dec. 2 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, presented by the Independent Film Project. Comedian-actor Mike Birbiglia hosted last year’s awards ceremony.
Fox Searchlight’s 12 Years a Slave from director Steve McQueen leads the field with three nominations, including best feature, best actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor and breakthrough actor for Lupita Nyong’o.
Blue Caprice, Concussion, Fruitvale Station, Inside Llewyn Davis and Upstream Color all received two nominations each.
Tributes are planned for actor Forest Whitaker, director Richard Linklater and Katherine Oliver, who heads the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
The Gotham Awards focus on independent American movies from U.S.-based or U.S.-born directors that are made “with a point of view and with an economy of means.”
