German public broadcaster ZDF has signed a two-year deal with Watchever that will see ZDF films and TV series carried on the German Netflix-style streaming video service.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The deal, announced Wednesday, includes episodes of critically-acclaimed TV series The Bridge, in its original Danish-German co-production, and popular tween shows H2O: Just Add Water and Mako Mermaids, both co-productions between ZDF and Jonathan M. Shiff Productions.
The rights package also includes multiple titles from ZDF’s catalog of animation series, including new versions of The Jungle Book and Peter Pan.
Sky Deutschland, the German pay-TV platform controlled by Rupert Murdoch‘s 21st Century Fox, also recently entered Germany‘s crowded subscription VOD market with a service called Snap.
Snap, available in Germany and Austria, costs $13.75 (€9.90) a month, or just $6.86 (€4.99) for the firm’s pay-TV subscribers. That compares to Amazon-owned Lovefilm’s $9.60 per-month offer, ProSiebenSat.1’s Maxdome’s $11 and Watchever’s $12.40 monthly fee.
