LONDON — The 10th edition of the Glasgow Film Festival, an event which claims to be the third-biggest movie shindig in the U.K., will be bookended by screenings of Wes Anderson‘s The Grand Budapest Hotel and Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin.
Anderson’s The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou was the closing gala screening at Glasgow’s first edition.
Organizers said it felt “particularly fitting” that Anderson’s current movie, starring Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Murray, Saoirse Ronan, Harvey Keitel and Willem Dafoe, will have its U.K. premiere at the opening gala event after debuting at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Glazer’s adaptation of Scottish-based writer Michel Faber’s novel is described by festival organizers as “audacious, spellbinding cinema” and was partly shot in Glasgow.
The 10th edition of the festival, which is supported by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Event Scotland and Creative Scotland, runs Feb. 20 through March 2.
Event organizers aim to make Glasgow, which plays host to the Commonwealth Games in the summer, “the biggest star of the festival” with special events in unusual venues across the city.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will play host to a gala screening of Young Frankenstein, while the former industrial warehouses in North Glasgow will be transformed into a retro-futuristic arcade for a screening of Tron. Another special event will invite underground enthusiasts to a never-before-accessed location underneath Central Station for a mystery film.
