Spike TV is partnering with Open Road Films for a first-window film package in the cable network’s ongoing attempt to rebrand as less male-centric.
The titles — Killer Elite, The Grey, End of Watch, Machete Kills, Homefront — will see broadcast premieres starting Nov. 11 with Killer Elite, with the window running through 2016.
“We are thrilled to partner with Open Road Films, whose cache of films are sure to resonate with our broadening, gender-balanced audience,” said Spike TV president Kevin Kay.
Spike’s executive vp programming Tom Zappala negotiated the agreement on behalf of the network, with Open Road Films CEO Tom Ortenberg, head of TV sales Rand Stoll and general counsel and exec vp operations and business affairs Elliott Kleinberg at the distributor.
“These films are certain to be popular with Spike TV’s audience,” added Ortenberg. “Kevin Kay and Tom Zappala have a keen eye for what their viewers want and we are very happy to partner with them to bring these titles to Spike TV.”
