20th Century Fox is in talks to preemptively pick up the screen rights to Endgame, the first wholly written YA novel by A Million Little Pieces writer James Frey since the author launched his intellectual property company, Full Fathom Five, in 2009.

A potential deal could come together just weeks after the author quietly closed a big deal for the book, which is intended to be a series, with Harper Collins.
Sources say the deal is worth north of $2.5 million and include Frey writing the screenplay. The best-selling writer’s fame was tarnished after allegations arose that certain elements were exaggerated in his memoir A Million Little Pieces.
There is a Google component to the deal as well, although those details were not revealed.
The plot for Endgame is being kept under wraps, although it was described as Hunger Games-like in tone by several sources.
Frey’s Full Fathom Five is intended to be a multiplatform IP generator and saw the author co-create works using a factory-like approach of hiring others to co-write the books. The Lorien Legacies, also known as the I Am Number Four book series, is the company’s highest profile issue.
But with Endgame, Frey will be the sole credited writer.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story said that Warner Bros. was bidding on the book.
